William R. Newlon

The life story of William R. Newlon, transportation section, from his son Jarold Newlon.

William R. Newlon was born in 1920 in central West Virginia and enlisted in the USAAC in 1940.  He made the initial overseas deployment with the 79th FG in October, 1942, but prior to deployment married his hometown sweetheart, Daisy Skidmore, in Winchester, VA.  He was assigned to the 79th’s Headquarters Transportation Section, and served in that capacity until August, 1945.

Upon returning from the war, William worked at Adamston Flat Glass Factory in Clarksburg, WV.  He and Daisy raised seven children, born from 1946 to 1964, which were the start and finish of the Baby Boom Generation.  He spent every free weekend fishing in the mountains on the Shavers Fork River.

William Newlon passed away in 1977.
